James Harris, Jr., MD, General Surgery

James Harris Jr, MD, FACS is a general surgeon and chair of surgery for Johns Hopkins at Howard County General Hospital. He is married to his childhood sweetheart, Rosina and they have 3 adult children. They had their 1st son, Tre, when he was 15 years old. Both James and Rosina were raised in poverty without family whom they could rely on for aid. They overcame the challenges of raising a family in poverty as teenage parents. They both became educated as a way to insure a better future for their family. Dr. Harris was raised by his disabled grandmother during the crack epidemic in the 80's. In this excerpt from his memoir, he shares the experience of being raised in a crack house.
